Rock Island Historical Society video
Since 1905, the Rock Island County Historical Society in Moline, Illinois has been preserving the history of the area—and beyond. Their collection includes: yearbooks, obituaries, birth, marriage, and death indexes, city directories, family histories, and cemetery, business, city, village, and county histories. Tune in to learn details of the treasures found in their library from President, Merredith Peterson.
Merredith started as a volunteer at RICHS in 2006 at the tender age of 57. She started by learning to scan, sort and file the photograph collection. Since then, she has learned to answer research questions, perform online searches, and edit the newsletter. She has served as secretary and president of the board of directors.
She taught math and algebra at the middle school level, worked for the Illinois State Board of Education, and as a building principal (K-5).
She lives in Cordova, IL and drives to RICHS 2 -3 times a week. She enjoys travel either by plane, boat, train, or book.
Volunteering at the library has taught her the value of a reference library. She enjoys both the people she has met and the wonderful collection of books at the library.
